Okay, I'll expand a little bit.
We are all busy. So how can we be more productive when the world has never been more crazy busy than it is now? We get to choose to ignore whatever we want and turn down the noise in our life. We can choose to ignore what doesn't really matter!
So how do we do that? I have 3 small tips you can practice to be more productive!
#1 - Turn off notifications!
How many times an hour does your phone buzz/vibrate with a notification? As soon as we hear the buzz, we stop what we are doing and look at our phone. We unlock our phone, look at what notification went off, open the app, read the notification, respond, look at other messages in that app and heaven forbid it was Facebook or Instagram.... May the force be with you to put the phone down within 10 minutes.....
By the time you return to what you were doing, you need to remind yourself where you were at and try to get back into the grove. It usually takes you a bit to get back into the flow and before you know it.... buzz buzz buzz. 🤦♀️
I have turned my phone to silent. I know... GASP! I started back to work last week and nobody knows my number here! I'm new! My email box is still zero and my voicemails are still zero! I'm trying something new and I'd love if you joined me.
Set a time of day to look at your phone and your notifications. Reply if you want and have time or don't. Completely up to you! (See #3 below)
Set a timer when you are on an app that takes you down a rabbit hole like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. You can enjoy the scroll but 2-3 hours at a time can really add up each day and decrease your productivity! 🤪
#2 - Turn down the noise in your mind! Practice ignoring things that send you into a tailspin. This could be the dishes in the sink, the unfolded laundry on the couch or the piles of mail on the cupboard. You get to set your priorities! Decide what you WANT to do and do those things. If you want to do the dishes.... do those. If you want to sit on the patio and read a book... do that! There are 24 hours in everybody's day. You get to choose how to spend each and every one of them anyway you want! Pretty powerful right!!! #3 - Don't "Should" yourself! Have you caught yourself saying, "I should ______" fill in the blank? Nobody likes to be told what to do, even by ourselves! LOL Make the choice to do something because you want to! Any time you catch yourself saying the words:
I need to
I have to
STOP!!! You don't HAVE to do anything! Take back your power and do something because you WANT to! You are in control! We will be more productive when we decide what to do, when to do it and who to do it with! You ready for this?
Here's your assignment for the week. If you choose, put into practice 1 of the 3 tips mentioned above. Decide which one would be more helpful and powerful for you to increase your productivity each day. Do it your way! You are the boss of your life!
